What Makes Powerwall 3 Different
Powerwall 3 is Tesla’s latest home battery. Unlike earlier Powerwalls, it has a solar inverter built in, so in many new installations one unit can manage your solar panels, store energy and supply your home, without a separate solar inverter on the wall.
Each Powerwall 3 holds 13.5kWh of usable energy, and expansion units can be added for more storage. It is controlled through the Tesla app, which many homeowners like for its simple, polished interface, and it integrates neatly with Tesla vehicles and chargers.
Powerwall 3 is quoted individually because pricing, supply and the right configuration depend on your home, your existing solar and whether you need expansion units or a backup gateway. We will tell you plainly whether it is the best option for you or whether another battery gives better value.

Is Tesla Powerwall 3 Right for Your Home?
Powerwall 3 suits homeowners who want a well-known brand, a polished app and a single unit that combines the solar inverter and battery. It is especially appealing for Tesla vehicle owners who want everything in one ecosystem.
It can be a strong fit for new solar and battery installations, where the built-in inverter avoids buying a separate one. For homes that already have a working solar inverter, the comparison changes, and an AC-coupled battery or a different hybrid system may be simpler or cheaper.
If your evening use is high, two units or an expansion unit may be needed, and the rebate per kWh falls above 14kWh. We model this at the site visit so you can compare Powerwall with Sungrow and Sigenergy side by side.
Why Homeowners Choose Tesla Powerwall
- Strong brand recognition and a polished app
- Built-in solar inverter for new installs
- High continuous output for a single unit
- Expansion units for more storage
- 10-year warranty
Things to Weigh Up
- Usually priced above our Sungrow and Alpha packages
- Fixed 13.5kWh blocks, so sizing is less granular than modular systems
- Heavy unit at 130kg, so location needs planning
- Whole-home backup needs Tesla’s backup gateway and correct wiring
Battery Rebate on a Tesla Powerwall System
Under the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, a Tesla Powerwall battery installed by an SAA-accredited installer earns small-scale technology certificates (STCs) based on its usable capacity. From 1 May 2026 the first 14kWh earns the full rate, capacity between 14 and 28kWh earns 60% and capacity between 28 and 50kWh earns 15%. We claim the certificates for you and take the value off your invoice.
The rate steps down every six months until 2030, and the rebate is set by your installation date, not the date you sign. Read the full guide on our battery rebate page.
How Tesla Powerwall Compares With Other Batteries We Install

Backup Power Needs a Backup Circuit
Powerwall 3 can keep your home running in an outage when installed with Tesla’s Backup Gateway and the agreed backup circuits. Without the gateway and correct wiring, it will not supply your home when the grid is down.
During your site visit we agree which circuits matter most, such as the fridge, lights, Wi-Fi and selected power points, and wire them to the backup supply. We also confirm whether your switchboard needs work and include it in the fixed price.

Tesla Powerwall Battery FAQs
How much does a Tesla Powerwall 3 cost in Sydney?
We quote Powerwall 3 per home because the price depends on your solar setup, backup requirements, expansion units and supply at the time. Your quote shows the full installed price with the rebate applied.
How much battery rebate does Powerwall 3 get?
One Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh usable) installed between May and December 2026 earns around 91 STCs, roughly $3,500. Two units (27kWh) earn around 148 STCs, roughly $5,600, because capacity above 14kWh earns 60% of the rate.
Does Powerwall 3 replace my solar inverter?
In many new installations, yes, because Powerwall 3 has a built-in solar inverter with three MPPTs. If you already have solar, we check whether it makes sense to connect your panels to Powerwall 3 or keep your existing inverter.
How long does a Powerwall 3 last during a blackout?
It depends on what is running. With a backup gateway and essential circuits only, 13.5kWh can cover the fridge, lights and Wi-Fi for a long time; running air-conditioning drains it much faster. We size backup to your priorities.
Is Powerwall better than Sungrow or Sigenergy?
Not automatically. Powerwall offers a strong app and brand, while Sungrow and Sigenergy offer modular sizing and, in our packages, lower price per kWh. We compare them on your usage and budget.
What warranty does Powerwall 3 have?
Tesla provides a 10-year warranty, and we add our own 10-year workmanship warranty and handle claims for you.
